Solin led Lyra and Rowan to a hidden lake whose water was black as ink. The surface rippled, forming a doorway. “The Underdeep,” Solin said. “Where forgotten magic sinks.” Lyra took a breath and stepped through.

The Underdeep was a world of floating ruins and drifting memories. Books swam like fish. Lanterns glowed underwater without flame. Lyra found a book that whispered her name and opened itself. Inside was a prophecy: “When the moon is stolen, the Listener must restore the tide.” Lyra felt her stomach twist. She was the Listener.

They reached a vast cavern where a swirling black ocean churned. At its center rose a figure made of water and shadow—the Tidecaller, a being who wanted to drown the world in eternal night. Around him, the Lunaris wolves were trapped in spirals of dark water.

As they tried to free the wolves, the Tidecaller struck. Rowan was pulled into the dark water, sinking fast. Lyra dove after him, grabbing his hand. The water tried to steal her memories, but she held onto Rowan’s voice, Rowan’s friendship, Rowan’s trust. She pulled him back to the surface, gasping.

Solin howled, and the Lunaris wolves answered. Their combined light formed a silver bridge across the dark sea. Lyra stepped onto it, holding the moon shard. She remembered every whisper the world had ever given her—and the shard burst into brilliant moonlight. The Tidecaller dissolved, the dark ocean calming into still water.

The Lunaris wolves carried the moon shard into the sky, restoring the moon to its rightful place. Soft silver light washed over the world again. Rowan squeezed Lyra’s hand. “You saved the night,” he said quietly.

Back home, Lyra placed a new charm beside the feather—a tiny moonstone that glowed softly. She felt tired, but peaceful. The world was safe again.

But deep in the Underdeep, something stirred—something older than the Silence, older than the Tide. And though Lyra didn’t know it yet, her journey would end with Book Five, where everything she had learned would be tested.
