Chapter 22: Letters From War (Summer)
A day I remember,
When I got that first letter,
From my dear son,
Who was fighting in a war,
So far away.
And I remember that letter,
In which he spoke of the weather,
His new comrades,
And his late dad,
Of the life that he had.
Said I was what he was fighting for,
The whole reason he'd gone off to war.
That was,
The first letter,
From war.
I started writing back,
Of how proud I was,
Of how brave,
And good he was.
Of what a father,
He'd be someday,
And that he better,
Make it home,
And make it safe.
He was the subject,
Of all my pleas,
And of all my prayers.
