Chapter 11: Re-living Us

WaterLily29 Romance 14 Aug 2026

There was a slight breeze, it made the leaves rustle and my hair flow in the air. The sun was beaming, casting it's rays just so, that it made the whole scenery look ethereal. There I was, standing at the edge of the cliff admiring the peak, the vast amount of trees, the oh-so-blue sky, when a sudden jerk made me lose my balance and before I could even register what had happened, I was falling and falling and falling. I could hear screaming. Someone was screaming my name, "Blair!" "NO!" "BLAIR!" "HELP! SOMEONE HELP!". And suddenly, my body slowed, like it was being guided, like it was floating on a cloud. I opened my eyes to see the most handsome face I had ever seen looking back down at me. The guy it belonged to smirked, "Hey, Duck-Face!". My eyes went wide. "Carson?!". Suddenly I saw red, I started struggling against his grip. "Easy there duckie, I'm only just helping you", he grinned. "HOW DARE YOU CALL ME THAT?!". "HOW DARE YOU SHOW UP AFTER ALL THESE AND... AND... SAVE ME?!" "WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT?!". He gaze locked onto mine he replied "You would rather I let you go?", "Well your wish is my command...". And then he DROPPED ME! I was plumetting towards the ground ready for impact, before he caught me, again.

Chapter 22: Reconnecting with Memories

"Careful! You might fall again," Carson smirked, a hint of protection hidden in his jocking eyes. I squirmed, trying to get out of his surprisingly strong but gentle hold. His hands gripped me a little harder.

The wind threw my hair around my eyes as I glared up at him. "So what right do you have? Hmm?" I prodded angrily.

He smiled a grin. His mouth reached to the edges of his face, his nose scrunched and his eyes squinted happily at my words. "Every single right since we met."

Our eyes locked and thousands of memories from our childhood that I shoved away flew through those few seconds.

He looked away and set me carefully down. "Please don't fall again," he said, his words almost whipped away by the wind. I could hear a note of nervousness in his voice.

"Sure. Whatever," I looked at the sunset to my right, facing the wind.

Beautiful shades of purple, blue and pink filled the sky as we flew toward the edge of the sky. I felt Carson move closer, just barely, and stood right behind me. I felt his breath in my hair, his eyes, not on the sunset, but me.

"What happened in the past doesn't have to stay there," he said, coming even closer. A shiver ran down my spine, although not from the cold. "Yes, it does." I stood firm in my words.

He placed a hand on my shoulder and spun me slowly around to face him. He was impossible close. "No," he ran a soft thumb down the edge of my jaw. I felt his own hands shake. "It doesn't."

I tried to slow my breathing as my heart raced. I failed to control myself. I pulled myself away from him. "Leave me alone."

Thunder rumbled behind us and lightning gave a warning flash. Carson ignored me. "I know and you know we can't leave everything behind."

I rubbed my hands over my arms. "You left me behind. So, yes, we can. Or at least, you can." I argued.

His breathing caught. "Do you think I wanted to? Did you think that I didn't want to run back to you? Maybe I left you, not by choice, but you left the memory of me behind. Didn't we agree to never forget each other, that Wednesday night in the old treehouse. Where we would play the most stupid game of Monopoly, and you would cheat when you weren't winning?" His voice let a soft chuckle at the memory. "I couldn't leave you behind. I just couldn't. I hope you find, somewhere, that you didn't either.

He dropped me off on a small peak and left.

I never did. I thought I never did.
