I was watching The Man from a distance. There was something sneaky about him. Sinister. Something not quite out in the open about him. Something I distrusted.

I couldn't place my finger on what exactly. No doubt everyone else would tell me I was being cynical, or ridiculous; paranoid. Yes, that was the word they used for women. For men, it was cynical, for women, paranoid.

Except for Kayley. She would believe me.

"Listen to yourself, Helena," she said. "You have good instincts."

It had taken a long time for me to believe this.

But this time, I did. There was definitely something sinister about this man.
