Chapter 11: " The Lurȋell𝅳"

Reverei Mystery / Thriller 2 days ago

It was the trip of a lifetime, yet they both knew neither of them would truly enjoy it.

A trip on the Lurȋell𝅳 was a once in a billion opportunity. Millions slaved away for years, just for the slim chance of holding an actual copy of the transparent tickets in their hands. A pipe dream in every sense of the word. Most of their fellow passengers had spent hours covered in blood, sweat, muck, and all other manners of grime, to obtain the tickets reminiscent of a thin sheet of ice. The same tickets they held with knowledge that they were not like their fellow passengers. They were among the minute few, who hadn’t done anything to warrant the tickets, in their uncalloused hands.

And it was painfully obvious.

The other passengers could tell by how Lorelei held the ticket. For it was without care if it blew away, despite the pursuit of the fierce winds of the port. They could tell with how unamused the two seemed, with the nature of the ticket itself; how they obviously didn't care for it, and how it came to be. They could tell as Levi stared at the port's pellucid waters with eyes misty and far. They could tell because it was just blatantly obvious how out of place they were. Because in truth, they did not at all deserve to be by the port waiting for one of the world's greatest attractions. And, whilst they could comprehend just how amazing the trip would be, the marvels every nook and cranny would provide, to them it was simply insignificant. For they also knew that they had just one trip, before both their worlds were flung into mayhem, the ticket, though beautiful, only served as a reminder of the impending doom that awaited them, a mere month away.

It was a truly horrifying thought, being stranded on a floating rock, in a forever expanding vacuum, dazed and disorientated.

It was a truly horrifying thought, to lose the one person with you from birth, with you since before you knew you had form.

It was a truly horrifying thought, to sleep without knowing if tonight would be the night of which you'd lose your soulmate forever.

It was a truly horrifying thing. To become alone.

It remained fact that the other passengers had experiences that the pair didn't. Lesson's they'd learned that may only come at certain points in either Darling's lifetime, and lessons that wouldn't ever come at all. Yet, the lonesome pair had experiences of their own—unique to them in their own right. Unnatural, oddish, yet unique never-the-less, for misery seemed to follow them wherever they went. The thought brought a rueful smile to Levi's face. He wondered if when one of them left the trip anew—eyes dulled, features sharpened, countless tidbits of evidence incriminating them of nights void of rest—whether or not they would also leave with the burden of a misery ment for two. He wondered if the spark that would be inevitably found missing would be what categorized them as defective. But he knew that they shared the belief, that either way, one would leave as the undead do, wandering forever without reason. As such, a trip on the Lurȋell𝅳 was sure to be an extraordinary experience. And yet, the twins were sure that it in the end, it would leave them with naught save for regret.

It was the trip of a lifetime, of a lifetime far too short.
