Chapter 22: Drivers license-Olivia Rodrigo

Awesomeclaire Literary / Fiction 15 Oct 2026

"Well, you passed!" Bethany, Liv's driving instructor, said happily and proudly. Liv smiled on the outside, but on the inside she felt overjoyed because she remembered those special conversations,

"When you get your license, we will travel everywhere!" He smiled, spinning on Liv's spinny chair in the middle of her room. She laughed, "Everywhere... together."

He gently took Liv's hand. "Forever."

"You okay?" Bethany said, snapping Liv back to reality.

"Great! I mean, I just passed my driver's test!" Liv covered the past with a smile she tried to make real. Liv's mom sat in the driver's license building, waiting. Liv walked in, holding her slip. Liv's mom looked at her as if saying, 'Well? Did you pass?'. I smiled, a real one.

"Mom, I passed!" Liv said. Her mom jumped up and hugged her,

"Great job, sweetie! I knew you could do it!" Liv hugged her mom back, but her mind wandered. "Where are you going first, dear?"

'I'm not sure... I was hoping... but... not going anywhere with... him.'

"Olivia? What's wrong?" Liv's mom asked. Liv hadn't realized she had tears streaming down her face.

"Happy tears," Liv said even though they weren't.

"Liv, you're going to mess up your beautiful makeup; you still gotta take your picture." Liv stood up straight. Oh yeah.

The light flashed in Liv's eyes. The woman behind the counter turned the computer that had her picture on it. The picture wasn't amazing, but at least it didn't make her look like a ghost. Liv nodded. They left with the paper and the information that her license card would come in a week or two.

"Wanna get a coffee? Ice cream? Cake? Coffee-flavored ice cream cake?" Her mom asked, slipping into the driver's seat.

"Um, a coffee sounds good," Liv said, trying to sound happy; she was, but whenever she drove, she would remember

'Forever'.

They got a coffee, and the drive home was quiet.

"Hey, Liv... I need some groceries. Wanna go and get them for me? Since it's legal!" Her mom handed Liv the keys. Liv stared at them and then watched her mom give her a thumbs-up and walk into the house. Liv backed out of the driveway and slowly left. She was slightly nervous but confident she could do it. She knew where she was going, but she knew what she passed on the way. A few minutes into the drive, she passed his house.

"When you get your license, we will travel everywhere!" He smiled, spinning on Liv's spinny chair in the middle of her room. She laughed, "Everywhere... together."

He gently took Liv's hand. "Forever."

His car was gone. I can guess where he is. He and Liv became more distant when she became a part of his life. She is blonde, beautiful, and everything I wanted to be, but I wasn't good enough?

Now, every time she drives, she'll have to pass his house; she'll remember the dreams they had and how he left her for someone else. The pictures were clear for Liv; she had drawn out their entire life together. Traveling the world, together... forever.

I miss you. I love you.

Liv remembered the night he made a song for her. Liv's jaw fell open when he sang. He had a melodic, charming voice. It made her think he truly loved her.

Liv started to cry. Passing all the resturants, stores, they shared so many wonderful memories together, but they didn't matter anymore. The pain was overwhelming.

For a week straight, Liv was running errands, always passing his house, memories flooding in at every turn. She knew they were not perfect, but she loved him more than she ever loved anybody: she knew she would never love anyone else as she loved him.

This is too much!

Liv got home and ran up to her room. Books piled onto her desk. Her pillow stained with tears.

C'mon, think, Liv!

She got out a very used notebook, and a wonderful idea came to mind; she wrote down her idea.

Driver's license- Song by Liv
