Chapter 11: Gardening on a sunny day

Minimoose Contemporary 11 hours ago

The sun was high in the sky and Linea was glad she'd worn a hat, though she could still feel the skin on her nose starting to crisp a little. But the carrot patch needed to be weeded, the tomatoes needed to be pruned and she wanted to cut some rosemary so it could start drying in the same sun that was making her a little uncomfortable.

"Oh well, I'll have to get some stronger sun cream. You'll just have to deal with it for now, nose."

She tried to look at her nose while she talked to it, and realised how silly this would look to an observer. Never mind, maybe the plants got a laugh out of it. Giggling a little, she stretched her back, knelt back down and continued to carefully pluck the weeds from between the rows of bushy little carrot plants. "The chickens are going to enjoy munching these" - into the chicken basket they went.

Chapter 22: Nose Knows Best

Well, that’s rude.
Linea looked around wildly for the voice. No one was around, just the plants.
I’m down here idiot.
Linea looked down until she was almost cross eyed. Was her nose–talking to her?
There you go, right between your eyes.
“What’s rude?”
I’m burnin’ out here. You covered up the rest of your body, but you just left me bakin' in the sun.
“Oh! I’m sorry. I didn’t think it was a big deal.”
You didn’t think it was a… WHAT!? How could it not be a big deal!?
"I just didn’t realize you'd care so much.”
The way I see it, you’re me and I’m you. I care, so you must too.
“You’ve got a point.” Linea marveled, admiring the apparent poetic poise of her appendage.
Of course I got a point. I AM–a point. I’m the farthest point on your face. Now get inside, and put some sun screen on.
Linea did as she was told, abandoning the task she had been so eager to accomplish only moments ago. “So after this you're good right? You’ll let me get back to the garden?”
As long as we're properly protected, yes. I can already feel it. How red are we? The sun does not do things good things to our complexion.
Linea liked it better before her nose started talking.
Finding the sun screen proved to be more of a challenge than it was worth—at least to her. She checked the usual spots: the drawer in the kitchen, the medicine cabinet, the pile of random clutter on the table. “I don’t know where it is. This is taking too long.”
It’ll take as long as it needs to. We're not going back out into that sun until we are protected.
Linea’s gaze drifted out the window, landing on the garden. The tomatoes still needed pruning, she hadn’t cut the rosemary for drying yet, and the weeds in the carrot patch jeered at her like a call to battle. The day was getting on. This little intermission had really thrown a wrench in her plans.
Her nose must have picked up on her intentions. You’re not seriously considering… don’t you dare!
