Chapter 11: No Reflection

Alexis Horror 10 Jun 2026

I walked out of the Empire State building, at 10:59 pm. A minute before it closed.

A faint voice called something from behind me but I couldn't make it out.

I whipped around and saw, Jesse, she was calling for me. "Wait for me!!!"

I flipped her off, ran past her and sprinted towards the closet shack I could find.

The next morning, I went to the bathroom and went piss.

I washed my hands and looked in the mirror. Nothing. My reflection. Gone.

What happened?

Chapter 22: Invisibility

Lostmystically Fantasy 21 Jul 2026

See, the thing is, nobody even questions it when somebody walks out of the Empire State Building one minute before it closes because by that point the city is alive with nightlife and neon. Everyone spills out onto the streets, far away you can hear the horns of angry taxis blaring and from open doors you watch people with beers and drink clinking their glasses in cheers. On the subway, you're probably not gonna be the only one with dark circles settled under your tired eyes exhausted from work. A lot of commuters, I think, have to contend with the growing rowdiness of the night-time crowd, and you get used to it.

Most nights, I don't mind having a bit of a life outside of work after I finish. I find myself stepping onto the sidewalk come rain or shine and then I fall into step with someone I don't even know as we all make our way through the crowd to god knows where. Sometimes strangers talk. Mostly they don't. They probably couldn't care less either way. Some people avoid you completely, but it only seems to be a last resort. People haven't completely done away with manners yet. Though, if you see someone you know, it's pretty normal just to slip away through the rippling swathes of people.

When I get far enough away from the office, I shrug out from my suit jacket and undo my top button. It's hardly freedom, but it's at least in the right direction. A lot of other people do this too, I've realised. Professionality doesn't really have to be maintained for very long, as long as you're sure that your boss isn't still watching from where they're still working and seeing your standards slip.

Of course, none of this matters if I knew I was gonna vanish.

The point is, in a city this busy, I may as well be invisible anyway. But that doesn't mean I thought it was actually gonna happen to me. I didn't know humans could just phase out of existence, but if this nightmare is actually happening then it seems they very well can. Or, I'm gonna wake up and like the ending of a bad book I'm gonna realise it was all just a dream, though it feels too much real for that now that I'm standing in front of the mirror staring at the point where I think my face used to be.

Chapter 33: realisation

KMartinWrites Horror 6 days ago

I step into the closest bar and walk up to the counter. Usually the barmaid is quick with my usual - a tall glass of whatever is on tap - but today she didn't even notice me.

right. no one can see me.

instead, i walk home, hoping that i didn't spook my dog. he was so jumpy, and since he was 5 feet tall on his back legs, i really tried to avoid getting him worked up. i silently unlocked the door and made my way to the kitchen. i pour myself a glass of water, although it felt much heavier than usual. maybe i was just sleep deprived or weak from exhausting myself at work. I didn't think much of it and went to take a drink.

but instead of quenching my thirst, the water went straight through me. being invisible was one thing, but to be completely transparent? i threw the glass at the wall and tried to think of any reason why this was happening. I went straight to my room and screamed into a pillow. this was so frustrating. i got my frustration out and i noticed an oddly shaped...thing in the corner. I went to investigate and to my horror, i realized it was me. cold. lifeless. dead. my poor dog was laying next to me trying to keep me warm, whining that i wasn't moving.

Chapter 44: A body left behind

bigbackfrog Fantasy 4 days ago

I almost scream. Almost. I mean, who expects to find their own body lying lifeless on the floor? It freaks me out to think that I'm not even as shocked as I thought I would be, I guess that's what happens when you turn invisible for a day. Well, I'm not invisible anymore, I'm dead. My beloved dog sniffs my dead body and senses something wrong. "Come one buddy, I'm right here." I whisper as I creep toward him. "Max, you can do it. I'm right here..." Am I going crazy? I'm dead and I'm trying to convince my dog that I'm here?? I sigh loudly, it's not like anyone can hear me anyway. I shudder at the sight of my body and wonder how long Ive been dead for. The strange thing is I don't have a clue of what happened that day, it feels almost like a dream you can feel but cant, remember. I slump down on my rusty bed in frustration and stare into my dog's eyes. Max looks at me with his classic "I understand what you're feeling" eyes and I feel slightly better. See, Max gets me, maybe I'll be fine. Wait! Max gets me! If he's looking at me right now... can he sense me?! I jump up and start moving crazy while feeling a burst of hope that I'm not in this alone. "Max, can you see me?" I shout while galloping around like a mad man. Max barks and jumps towards me excitedly, he then pauses in confusion when he falls right through my "ghost body". "Ya, I know buddy, things are confusing and I have no idea why I'm like this but we can solve it right?" My voice shakes and I sound like I'm trying to perssuade myself more than Max. There's a lot to do but first I got to enjoy being invisible. "Hmmm what should we do now, Max?"
