Chapter 11: Hard to Win

storymaster Contemporary 3 Mar 2026

Tyrone was a basketball player at heart. At 6'7" he had the build and muscle. He was rated the top high school forward in the country, but there was one problem. His team was trash. Even despite Tyrone's 27 points per game, and his 14 rebounds, his team couldn't win. His parents didn't let him transfer, because they said that school was for learning and not just sports.

"Dawg, this is bull crap!" Tyrone muttered to a McDonald's All-American teammate. He was relaxing in his bed, one leg up, and a basketball tucked under his arm, his other holding the phone.

"What?" his teammate half-responded, focused on something else.

"My team!" Tyrone exclaimed, "Yo, they are the worst bunch of crap I have ever played with!"

"Why don't you just transfer?" the teammate, Jaamal, asked.

"My frickin' parents won't let me," Tyrone responded, groaning.

"Hey, at least we'll be on the same team next year," Jaamal stated. It was true. Jaamal and Tyrone, the best guard and forward in the country, were attending Michigan State.

"Coach Izzo's going to take back that offer if I don't win a state championship."

"You'll be fine," chided Jaamal, "at least your girlfriend likes you. I just found out that mine was cheating!"

"I don't give a crap about my girlfriend if I don't make it to Michigan State. She'll probably break up with me anyway,"

"Whatever, dawg," Jaamal responded, "anyway, I gotta go, I have practice in ten."

"See ya later," Tyrone said, and then hung up the phone. Tyrone thought about the big game tomorrow. It was their first game of the season, and if they won, it would help with the guys' spirits.

Tyrone went outside to shoot baskets and work out. After finishing, he went back inside and grabbed a protein shake before going to bed. He was going to need some good sleep if they were going to need him tomorrow.
