"Hey hottie," a man walks past, grinning, and gives a slight wave, then he continues on his way. This happens a lot, especially when you're the hottest and most popular girl in school. All the guys try to get my attention, but I have feelings for only one. Josh Parker. Star athlete, class president, and also receiving academic scholarships to Yale, but it doesn't seem like he notices me. Until now.
With the Homecoming dance coming up, lots of people are being asked to go, even the nerdiest girl in the school. Luckily Josh hasn't asked anyone yet, but he might soon. As soon as I see him approaching, I go into flirt mode.
"Hey, need anything?" I say smoothly, messing with my hair.
"Has anyone asked you yet?" he says, glancing around nervously. Funny, this is the first time I have seen him nervous.
"No," I respond slowly, "but I would be happy if someone did." He laughs, his nerves gone.
"Want to go then?" he asks.
"No," I respond, he looks away and starts walking back to his friends, "way would I say no! Let's go!" I finish my sentence. He turns around and I run to him. He opens his arms and I embrace him, something I had dreamed of for years. He lifts me up in the air, and twirls me around.
"Let's get some of this action going on homecoming," he says. I nod my response, and he sets me down. We stare at each other's eyes for a few minutes, and then the hall monitor's voice cuts through.
"Get to class!" he says, but this can't put a damper on how I'm feeling right now.
