Chapter 11: Mists of Failure

VoidAwakens Dystopian 2 hours ago

“Haupa! Where are you? Oh, come out, won’t you?” Kairqo whine, he had been looking for his sister for hours.

Kairqo sighed, he walked down the hill into a closed in town, it looked like a ghost town.

“Haupa!.. Are you here?” Kairqo yelled out.

No answer.

He walked into the town, sand and rubble filling his shoes as he disappeared deeper into it.

The surrounding remains of a town that had once been, only a few houses stood, just barely.

Dirt was streaked over each remaining wall, crimson streaks blended into it as well.

A sign of who was here, and who was hurt.

Haupa sat on the top of a roof, still as a mannequin.

Kairqo stared at Haupa, does she know how much stress she put him under?

The emotionless expression across Haupa’s face gave Kairqo chill.

”Haupa?..” Kairqo squeaked.

Haupa was pale and silent, unmoving.

Kairqo walked over to a pile a of rubble, climbing on top of it, with a jump, he latched onto the edge of the roof.

”Haupa! Help me get up!” Kairqo laughed nervously as he dangled on the edge, it was a two story drop, it was a surprise he even made it to the roof in the first place.

Haupa started crying, “This city was destroyed by greedy landowners! It used to be a town! A bustling one at that! Now it’s gone, all of it..”

Kairqo’s eyes widened, he didn’t think Haupa even knew this area.

“That’s great, but could you help me up?” Kairqo mumbled.

Haupa lifted him up onto the roof, Kairqo then realized, this is where they grew up, only distinguishable from the sunset that used to cast over the now remains of a town.

Kairqo stood on the roof, “We’re going to rebuild it. When we’re older. We’ll rebuild what was ours, we will. Won’t we, Haupa?”

“We will. Yes, we will, brother.” Haupa smiled.
