Chapter 11: A Spot in the Sky
The day had started off usual. And then, there was a spot. It wasn't a comet, or a plane, or the moon, or even superman. It was a spot. To the untrained eye, it looked like nothing. A blink and it disappears kind of moment. But a lot of people did notice. Some important people noticed. They deemed it a threat. And they started working on it right away.
Chapter 22: The Scientists Got it Wrong
Dr. Drawbo, Professor Cortican, and Teacher Tamarin made their presentation to the Heads of State of the Great World Council. Their charts were stellar. One chart showed the trajectory of the newly discovered comet as it veered off course due to a magnetic resonance anomaly from Galaxy Fidspec 896JI. Another chart detailed the alternate symmetry of Jupiter's moon Aloris causing reflective spots at angles of 138 degrees. Chart after chart. The other scientists from other nation-states presented their cosmic charts and mathematical formulas that supposedly explained the purple spot.
The heads of state, hardly scientists at all, could not understand one syllable of their formulas, cybernetics, and pedagogics. They did know that the media, the citizens, and most importantly, the donors, were getting restless. They needed answers. Otherwise, this is what happens: the media starts a frenzy; the citizens report more "sightings" and "encounters", mostly not real, and definitely exaggerated; the donors think the heads of state lost control and the donations and sponsorships trickle down REAL FAST.
Too bad they didn't ask me. Why would they? The caterer doesn't chime in to these hallowed gatherings. This time I realized that I had to step out of my comfortable life of party platters, tablescapes, and Viennese dessert tables. My 190 IQ brought nothing but heartache and stress to my formative years. When I found the world of gourmet food and catering, I found my niche in the world. But now I needed to step out of my happy food world.
I realized that if I didn't speak up now. the world as we know it would end in 79 hours, 48 minutes, and 15 seconds. I stepped in front of Teacher Tamarin who was wrapping up the final chart presentation and blurted out, "These lovely, erudite sciencey people are all getting at something big. But they kinda don't have the big picture! The real problem is a satellite clash."
Oh no! Did I just say that like an utter doorknob! Prime Minister Jinata shouted, "Security!"
Time to save face. "No wait! The hypoglip field from the galaxies and comets presented tonight are causing stipalization at the 137 degree crux of the Kicharom satellite spectrum. If you don't reset the satellite algorithms, the world will end in 79 hours, 48 minutes, and 15 seconds!"
