Chapter 11: Twinkling love

Queen-neef13 Romance 11 Apr 2026

I sat there in the shadows of the car, glad that it hid my smile. The smile that spread across my face every time he looked at me, every time he said something clever.

Yet, there I sat making a fool out of myself. I wasn't jumbled up like in the movies. I just couldn't think of something smart to say, which would've been fine had I just shut up.

Of course my first crush couldn't have been on a random stranger. Instead it was on my mom's new friend's son. That was why he was driving right now, my mom can't drive in the dark and he had offered to help.

In my mind he was perfect, his hair was just the right shade of reddish brown, and he was tall with very few freckles.

"What did the sheepdog say to the cow?" I asked hoping to hear him laugh, I never have before.

"Mooove," he said guessing my ending.

Chapter 22: Digit Exchange

He let out a small laugh, though I think it was just to humor me. Why did I say that? I buried my face in my hands, not wanting to show my face again. He's looking toward the road so he can't see into the back seat where I was sitting. Maybe if I tried a different joke he would have laughed some more. I stopped myself before I could be even more embarrassed.

Finally, we reached our house, and I scrambled out of the car, hoping to get inside before he noticed. Instead, he called me over to his window. On the way, I passed my mom, and she gave me the smile. The smile is the one that says they know everything and that they're going to need answers later. I passed her, pretending like I didn't notice and continued on my way to his window.

At his door, I stopped, leaning casually against it.

"Hey," he told me, "I liked your joke."

"Thanks," I replied, pushing my hair behind one of my ears.

"So, anyway," He followed up, "Could I get your number by any chance?"
