Chapter 1

“Eliza, time to go,” mother called.

“Let me finish this last chapter.”

“We’ve got to go!”

Eliza shut her kindle, got dressed, brushed her teeth, and went downstairs. When she entered the kitchen, she saw her grandparents, her parents, and the twins. The twins were her little brother and sister, and they were both 6. Madison loved to sing, even though she wasn’t very good. Miles was the only boy, and usually pushed things too far. Her mother Eva, was from California, and loved the beach. Eliza’s father, Tristan, was also from California. He didn’t like Eliza reading all the time.

We went from the house to the dock, where our boat was waiting for us. My aunt, uncle, and cousin met us there. We all had to take our shoes off before we got on the boat. Once we got on we all had to put the food in compartments for lunch and food snacks. While we were packing the food away, I saw my little brother sneak a snack.

“Miles! You're not supposed to eat the food yet!”

Miles stuck out his tongue, and called “Mom, Eliza sneaked her kindle in her bag!”

I groaned. Why was he always like this? Tattling on me for reading my new book.

“Hey, I need some time to myself,” I tell Miles. “You just hate reading normal books, don’t you? You only read comic books and graphic novels.”

My mom shouts at us to get down here, and we all tramp down the stairs.
