Chapter 11: Night Curfew

The bell rang.

"Quick, get inside!" Josh whispered urgently. Miko finished putting up the last of the cameras and then ran inside, the outdoors not being safe at this time of night. The government had started a curfew at 9 o'clock p.m. each night, for unsafe reasons. The ones who had stayed out disappeared, and weren't seen. Josh and his younger brother Miko, decided to find out what was happening, so they put out cameras, and only had to watch.

"Let's go!" Miko yelled excitedly. They hurried to a small dingy television set, and sat down. They were going to find out what it was. Josh flicked on the small set, but nothing appeared.

"Dang it!" Miko muttered, "I forgot to plug them in." With that, he hurried to the door, and outside.

"Wait, Miko, don't!" Josh tried telling him, but it was too late, he was already outside. All Josh could do was wait.

Meanwhile, outside, Miko finished plugging the cameras back in when he saw a large hunched figure approaching.

"What the-" was all he could get out before it jumped at him.

Inside, the television finally showed a small black and white picture. Josh saw Miko standing and looking into the distance.

"What is he looking at?" Josh thought aloud. Suddenly, a large figure sprang on Miko. Josh sat transfixed in his chair. What the heck was that? Before Josh could react, the creature ripped of Miko's head, veins still dangling, and threw it to the side, then it walked up to the door. Josh froze in fear. What would happen?

"Let me in. Please," a voice pleaded.

"That sounds like Miko," Josh thought, "but I just saw him die."

"Please, something is coming," the voice pleaded again. Josh turned his attention to the television, then froze. The thing was looking right at the camera, staring into Josh's eyes as if it could see him. With a powerful swipe, it blacked out the camera, and then, after a final pound on the door, it left, leaving Josh wondering what had just happened.

Chapter 22: Night Searcher

The handheld cord phone shook in Josh's hands as he dialed the authorities. The whole thing was on camera, and he figured that if he could show them, they might do something. The phone rang. And rang. And rang. Eventually, Josh gave up.

"I can call them in the morning," he thought to himself. Right now, he had to gather Miko's body, and take it inside before the thing came back to feast. He at least wanted his brother to have a proper funeral.

The cold winter air bit into the skin of Josh's bare arms. Shivering, he walked out into the empty street and looked down each way. Nothing. He located Miko's bloodied body easily, but couldn't find his head. He ventured out into the cold a little more, hoping to find it.

The ditch across the road sloped down slowly, and Josh slid down the icy bank. Nothing was directly where he was, but a quick glance to the right, showed a round lump laying in the snow. Josh walked closer slowly, not wanting the thing to hear him if it was still near. As he reached the head, a noise startled him. He creeped up the bank, and snuck a glance toward his house.

"Dang it!" he cursed himself. He had left the front door wide open, and it was banging against the side of the house. That was the noise that he had heard. He grabbed Miko's head by his hair, and started toward his house, when a sudden movement from inside caught his attention. A creature, about seven or eight feet tall, but hunched over, was inside his house. The same creature that had murdered Miko. Josh tried to slowly back down the slope, but stepped on a stick and cracked it. He froze, and so did the creature. Josh slid down the rest of the slope, as the creature stepped out of the house, looking in his direction.
