Chapter 11: Running through the dark
Who wanted to attend that stupid party anyways?
“Where are we going?”
I turn to find Theo jogging towards, still carrying along his punch cup.
“Why are you leaving the party?”
“Why shouldn’t I leave the party? Especially with what happened back there.” He raises his hands, “Bad influence I say.” He manages a chuckle from me but I don’t want to go back to what happened.
“So, where are we going?”
“I don’t know,” I huffed. “Anywhere except there.” I grumble inwardly while strumming my hands along the fence walls. The music blends into the background as we exit the house gates, the streets dimly lit by the street lamps.
“So…” He starts, finishing his punch and tossing it into the neighbours bin, “What did happen back there?”
”I don’t wanna talk about it.” I exasperate, throwing my hands.
“Well,” he drawls stretching his arm across my shoulders. “How ‘bout we go to this place I know?” Why’s he so physically comfortable with me? I take his arm off. “We? Sorry, but I don’t want to-”.
“Come on, it’s just 5 minutes away.” He insists.
“I just-” I try to step away before he grabs my arm and whisks me off. “Hey!”
We’re running- more like he is and I’m being dragged along- and Theo just smiles, He has no physical boundaries, I think. His face disappears every time we pass the streetlight.
“You can’t just be.. *huff* forcing me-” I’m already puffed out, I really need to work on my endurance.
“Too late, we’re almost there.” He seems to be just fine. I’m surprised we haven’t bumped into anything given how dark it is. The figure of a hill and trees come into view and I really need a break.
“You really need to stop-” “Cutting you off?” He finishes with a smile, eyes dancing.
Huh, this guy-
“Here we are.”
Chapter 22: Beauty of Magic
“Woah..” I was at a loss of words. Theo looked at me and smirked. “What is this place?” I say, as I cautiously rest my hand on the battlements below the fence of a 150 square foot theme park.
“What do you think?” Theo sounded like this was any other day.
It’s baffling, honestly. Same street I take to my college courses each morning and I’ve never noticed the vibrant rides right in front of me. It’s not likely that it’s a temporary event since they’re normally no more than 50 square feet. I tried recalling what was there before but my memory was foggy from that damn party.
“Ya just gonna stand there or what? Should we get started?”
I turned to face Theo and froze when I saw he changed from sweatpants and a stained tee to a navy blue tux along with a black cape with a purple interior that perfectly complemented his dirty-blonde haircut. My heart was a fluttering butterfly.
“How did yo-” I just accepted that he was most likely responsible for the amusement park in the middle of a careless community.
“Tell me, do you see the beauty of magic?”
