monday425 Fantasy 3 Mar 2026

Morning never came. The sun rose only halfway, then dimmed to a dull gray. Lyra felt the fire‑mark on her wrist pulse painfully. Rowan ran to her house, breathless. “Lyra… the Hollow King has broken free.” The world felt like it was holding its breath.

Aeralune soared from the sky in a burst of silver light. Elarin stepped from the forest, leaves swirling around her. Solin, the starlit wolf, padded forward silently. The Ember Queen rose from a pillar of flame. Four Guardians stood together at last—yet something was missing.

“The fifth Guardian,” Aeralune said. “The one who vanished.”

Lyra felt the mark on her wrist burn brighter.

Chapter 33: The Fifth Guardian

The capital had never felt so dim. As Lyra and Rowan rode through the gates, the city’s great crystal spires glimmered faintly, as if starved. People moved in uneasy clusters, whispering about the sun’s strange half‑rise, about the mountain that had cracked open. Every face turned toward Lyra as she passed, their eyes flicking to the fire‑mark glowing on her wrist.

Word had spread. They knew why she was here.

The Council Hall loomed ahead, its silver doors thrown open. Rowan squeezed her shoulder before she stepped inside.

“You won’t be alone in this,” he murmured.

Lyra wished she believed him.

The hall was dark except for a single circle of pale light at its center. A sudden gust swept through the chamber, scattering dust like falling stars. The sky itself seemed to split. Aeralune descended first, wings unfurling in a burst of silver radiance. Her feathers shimmered like moonlit frost as she landed, eyes sharp and hawklike. rom the shadowed treeline beyond the hall’s open roof, Elarin emerged next. Leaves spiraled around her ankles, the scent of mulch clinging to her cloak. Solin padded forward, his fur rippling with starlight. Each step left faint constellations glowing on the marble floor before fading away.

Last came the heat. Flames roared upward from a pillar of fire, coiling into the shape of a woman. The Ember Queen stepped out, molten gold dripping from her fingertips, her presence filling the hall with blistering warmth.

Four Guardians. The ancient protectors of the realms. They stood in a circle around Lyra.

Aeralune’s voice broke the silence, clear as ringing steel. “Four stand before you, Lyra of the Fire‑Mark. But the circle is broken.”

Elarin nodded. “The Hollow King rises. The seals fail. The light falters.”

Solin’s growl was low, resonant. “We cannot face him as four.”

The Ember Queen’s flames dimmed, her expression tightening. “The fifth Guardian is missing.”

Lyra’s pulse quickened. The fire‑mark on her wrist flared so brightly she had to clench her fist to bear it. Heat surged up her arm, into her chest, into her breath.

Aeralune stepped closer, her silver wings folding behind her. “The one who vanished,” she said softly, “has returned. Marked by Sun Fever, and stronger for it.”

Lyra’s breath caught. The mark burned and The Guardians bowed their heads. Lyra was the fifth.
