Chapter 11: A Mystery

MasterBaker12 Mystery / Thriller 3 days ago

There is a blur of light blue and blonde in the busy streets of New York City.

Then a agonizing scream.

The next thing Gracy-Kate knows, is that someone had been attacked in the middle of the streets. She glances away from the still form of the young woman.

The young woman had on a dark red dress, with gold jewlrey and pretty makeup. She was definitely rich...

But what was that blur? Did that person do this?

Gracy-Kate furrowed her eyebrows, "Hmmm..." She mumbled softly as she tapped her chin.

Soon, sirens filled the air, and the young woman was soon dragged into an ambulance.

Gracy-Kate looked around, no one nearby had on a light blue outfit, and almost none of them had that bright blonde hair that she saw.

"Hey, Girl."

Gracy-Kate whirled around to see an officer nearby, putting up yellow caution tape around the crime scene.

"You are in the middle of a crime scene, girl." The officer said, frowning, "I will need to ask you to leave."

Gracy-Kate sighed, That's right, he doesn't know.

She reached into her leather jacket, and pulled out a card, it said:

Chapter 22: The World's Only Accredited Psychic Medium

The officer turned the card over on his hands. Grace-Katherine Lowe: The World's Only Accredited Psychic Medium printed in block text beneath a grainy photo of Gracy-Kate herself shaking hands with The Pope.

The officer squinted at the card, then at her, then back at the card. "Ol' JP, huh?"

"Francis, actually," Gracy-Kate said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "You Catholic, then?"

"Mom was," the officer replied. he didn't look impressed, but he didn't hand the card back either. He turned it over once more, as if April's Fools! might be printed on the back. "Look, psychic or not, I still gotta ask you to step behind the tape."

"Of course, of course." She raised both hands in surrender, backing up a little. "Becky would be real proud, Jareth," she added, envisioning the officer's mother shimmering behind him in her cancer-less state, thirty something and beaming. "But before I do... did anyone else see the blur?"

"The what now?" The officer asked, clearly shaken by Gracy's read on him.

"Light blue. Blonde hair." She tapped her chin again, a habit she couldn't seem to shake. "No one in this crowd matches. Which means whoever it was, they're already gone."

The officer's frown deepened, somewhere between annoyance and reluctant curiosity. "You saw somebody running from the scene?"

"Having the sixth sense really only strengthens the other five," Gracy-Kate's pale eyes drifted back toward the ambulance doors, now swinging shut. "I don't think that woman's story ends here."

Officer Jareth sighed. "Okay lady. You can follow me to the station and have a chat with my supervisor if you really think you have a lead.
