In the land of Elarion, where magic sprang forth in the light of the moon, Coral was the only girl born with the ability to revive dying stars.

And Davian was the boy fated to ruin them.

It was never meant to happen that they would end up falling in love.

But every night, under the shadow of the silver willow tree, Coral would slip out of the castle to be with him. He would illuminate the flowers in the darkness, and she would show him how to capture starlight in his hands."You know," he whispered one night, wiping away her tears, "even if the whole world turned against you, I would be by your side."

Coral smiled bitterly. "Even at the cost of everything?"

Silence was his warning.

Three days later, the stars of the kingdom began to disappear.

And Davian vanished.

Coral found him at the outskirts of the magic forest, under a sky that had turned almost completely dark. The last surviving star was in his hands.

"Tell me you haven’t done this," she whispered.

"I did it for you," Davian said through tears.

"For me?"He gazed at her like he was trying to memorize each feature of her face.

“You will die.”

Coral took a step back, and the magic within her heart started to burn.

“You should have trusted me.”

“I couldn't lose you, Coral.”

“You already did.”

She turned her head without allowing him to see her crying.

Behind her, Davian uttered the one thing he could never say out loud.

“I love you.”

The forest became silent.

Coral stopped moving forward.

In that moment of impossibility, she wished to run back to him. To forgive him. To make love heal all that fear has wounded.

But when she turned to face him, Davian was nowhere to be seen.

There was only the last star left, hanging in the sky.

Inside the shimmering silver light of the star, Coral heard Davian speak one more time.

"If you love me still when the stars return, follow my light."

She stretched out her hand toward it. The star extinguished itself.

But somewhere out there in the far reaches of the world, someone murmured her name.

Coral.

She wasn’t sure if it was Davian summoning her back…
